Admission Process

The International School of Lusaka, Zambia has been successfully serving the international and local community since 1963. ISL is an authorized International Baccalaureate World School, accredited by CIS and NEASC and a member of ISAZ and AISA. The school offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP, Nursery-Year 6),  International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC, Years 7-9, from August 2016), International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE, Years 10-11) and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP, Years 12-13) curricula.

To apply for student admission to ISL, please click on the online admissions application link on the right of this page which will take you to the online admissions portal where you can register and start the online application process. The application can be completed in stages but, following the initial registration, you will need to upload the following information or documents for your child to the online admissions system in order to complete the process:

Medical form and vaccination records
Copy of birth certificate or passport
Passport size photo
Child's grade reports from previous school
Copy of parent's work/residence permit

If your child is already attending a school, you will also need to download the relevant forms from the online admissions system to give to the child's present school:

Counselor information sheet
Primary teacher recommendation form
Secondary Mathematics recommendation form
Secondary English recommendation form

It is essential that you provide all the necessary information on the online application form and have also told us any concerns you may have about your child. Children whose chronological age does not match their educational performance require very careful placement, and we only offer places to children who are developmentally appropriate for our age-related programmes.

Following payment of the registration fee, an assessment for admission and class placement purposes will be made, which will enable the school to decide upon the most appropriate instructional level/subject selection for your child's success here at ISL. Once it is established that the school has a programme that can meet the applicant's learning needs and providing that there is a vacancy in the appropriate year level, the school will offer your child a place.

ISL has a Learning Support department and admits a number of students with slight to moderate learning needs. Children are supported in the mainstream subject classes and also directly by the Learning Support  teachers within the Learning Support classrooms, as appropriate.

Some provision is made for those with little or no experience in an English language school. The English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) programme teachers will be consulted before admission to the regular school programme and English language learners will be assessed by an ESOL teacher. Details of the ESOL admission criteria are available from the Student Support Department.

It is the policy of the school that no child be denied admission to ISL based on race, colour, creed, religion, sex or national origin. Notwithstanding the generality of the admissions criteria, the school administration shall ensure that the international character and gender balance of the student body is maintained.

If you require further information before starting the online admissions process, please contact the Admissions Office via email (enquiries@islzambia.org) or via the school reception by telephone (+260 211 250351 or 252291).
