March 2017

An opportunity to share news is always welcome!

We have successfully completed the CIS/NEASC self- study report. It was sent on Monday, 6th March 2017 to the organisations and the Chairs of the Visiting Team. There has been a lot of hard work from all sections of the school community especially the teachers and Chairs and I would like to sincerely thank them for going that extra mile.  We now await the arrival of the Visiting Team comprising of 8- 9 members from across the globe to our school next month from April 22nd to 28th.  This visit will help us formalise strategies and plans to further improve and build school premises and programme.

Great news! The new PTA Committee has been formed- Mrs. Nancy Sikazwe (Chair), Mrs. Anita Kosor (Co- chair and ISL alumni), Mrs. Moira Byers  (Secretary), Mrs. Helen Trussel (Treasurer), Mr. Simon Foster (Board Representative) Mr. Tinga Chirwa (member) and Mr. Jannie Armstrong (member).  A dynamic team indeed and we look forward to another fabulous year with creative ideas and plans to support the school.  I would also like to thank the Previous PTA Chair and his team for the support rendered to school during their tenure. Well done everyone!

Our school has recently bagged the trophy for the Developmental Swim Gala held at AISL and we are very proud of all our students making great strides and progress in the Swim Gala. Congratulations to our team of 67 students who represented ISL and our swim coaches!

The ISL Pool Picnic (Nursery and Preschool), Splash Gala (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) and Primary Inter House Gala (Year 3- Year 6) take place this month on 23rd, 24th and 31st March respectively. An opportunity for you to witness your child’s swimming skills and encourage them. All the galas will start after break at 11:00 am.

The Primary Student Council (comprising of House Captains and Vice captains and select students from Year 4 and 5) held their first Valentine Disco at school last month. The children did very well promoting the event and together with the support of their teachers- Mrs. Sekai Chitaukire and Mrs. Grace Kambeu raised over K2000/-. A notable achievement indeed! Another group of Year 6 students- Rea, Nabeela and Shaima raised over K850/- in their attempt to support APTERS.  Wonderful initiative, yet again from our dear students!!

Save these dates:

Year 2’s exhibit their Art work on March 16th; this show cases their work put in during their unit on “How We Express Ourselves” and the Year 5 students- our business entrepreneurs have  a “Market Day” to sell their “wares” on March 17th.

The Early Years Team is getting geared up for the Annual Production to be held on March 30th which promises to be fantastic with popular Disney songs being sung by our very young students.

The Student Led Conference will be held on April 5th. On this day children, with parents/guardians in attendance have the privilege of sharing their success stories and their areas to strengthen.  Our firm belief is with parental support and encouragement, children will feel empowered and excel in their potential.

The list goes on…… as you can see, our days are very busy and we like it that way. There is never a dull moment on campus. Until next time… Ciao
