Congratulation to the DP1 students who have passed their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award with flying colours in Ndubaluba last week!
During the first day they walked over 10 km, from 7am to 4pm, although one group added an extra 2.5 km as a little “detour”. They went through muddy dambo, fell on their faces and all came back muddy with wet shoes! Still they found the energy to set up their camp, put up the tents, make a fire (a challenging task considering the grass was quite wet) and prepare their meals,. Mr Chilele and Ms Rousseau were happy to taste all the food and voted for a winner: the group who made smores!
The second day was even more challenging, with the same distance but this time they walked until between 5 and 6.30 pm! They got lost but they all followed their training and the right procedures. Some of them walked through water up to their waist and high grass. One group was chased by cows! No one panicked and they made it back safely, before giving a presentation on human encroachment on animal habitat before bedtime.
