Your College Search and Application

A number of websites offering advice on organising your college search and the application process.

Creating physical and/or digital files will give you quick and easy access to all of the information that you may need. Materials are less likely to get lost this way as well. Have a home for everything.
A student file is made up of a range of files including records of academic classes, test results, extra curricular activities, sports, volunteerism, work experience, resume, transcripts and letters of recommendation (if available to you).
A college application file is made up of pamphlets, brochures and a criteria list for what you are looking for in a university. You will need a worksheet for each college you are applying to, print-outs of all communication with colleges, copy of actual application and copies of essays, etc.
Your financial aid information file should contain your CSS profile, FAFSA, bank records/statements and scholarship info, etc
Keep track of all your communication with different universities (e.g. emails, phone calls, interviews, submission dates)
Use the ‘ISL College Search and Application’ spreadsheet to help you organise specific information about each university (conveniently in one digital place).
Create an on-going ‘To Do’ list and tick the boxes once complete. It will help you feel less overwhelmed as you observe yourself accomplishing small goals and tasks.
Mark all deadlines (internal and external). These deadlines may include application submission dates, interview dates, test dates, decision dates, scholarship submission dates and financial aid form submission dates etc.
